Tongue Tantalizing Tomato Tasting

Tongue Tantalizing Tomato Tasting
A benefit for Brookside School Farm
Wednesday, September 21st, 5:00 pm-9:00 pm Willits Shakespeare Theater

With close to 50 varieties of tomatoes, two amazing live bands, dinner prepared with fresh local foods and a rock star venue, how can we go wrong? The Gardens Project is proud to collaborate with Brookside School Farm to provide the community with a glimpse of what they offer the Willits Public Schools.

The fun will begin with a guided farm tour at 3:30 on the Brookside School Farm. This classy fundraiser will feature the down to earth sounds of the Frey Brothers Band while you taste and judge the best tomatoes they can grow. Later in the evening, the complicated jazz progressions of The Stormy Weathermen will accompany a candle lit dinner of local, organic Ratatouille prepared with fresh veggies from around Little Lake Valley. Bio-dynamic wine from the Frey Winery and delicious local brew from Mendocino Brewing Company and Lagunitas will be available for purchase. Included in the ticket price is one complimentary drink, fresh appetizers, live music and the opportunity to taste and judge dozens of varieties of locally grown tomatoes. A spectacular local, organically grown farm fresh entrée will be available for purchase.

Please come to The Willits Shakespeare Theater on Wednesday, September 21st from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 pm to support Brookside School Farm and the Willits Farm to School Program. Tickets are available for $30 pre-sale at Burrito Exquisito and $35 at the door and include the tasting, dinner and complimentary drink. The tasting is less than week away so get your tickets today and make the commitment to support healthy food in our schools!

Community Gardens are getting cooked, canned, and stored up

The Willits Integrated Service Center is moving into the next gardening season. With the over abundance of Green tomatoes, unripened peppers and garlic along with some helpful guidance from Jaynene Johnson, some of the Community Gardeners are making fermented salsa. More nutritional, easier to make, and a tasty way to use produce that isn't ready, The fermented green salsa is a hit! My girlfriend and I are planning on giving our salsa away as Christmas presents. check out the living light raw website for other great fermented and raw recipes. http://www.rawfoodchef.com/culinaryArts/rawfoodRecipes.html

We can because we can
